Leaf Insect C2C Square
Last year I had the pleasure of stepping out of my comfort zone (hello Amigurumi!) and design a Leaf Insect C2C Square as a part of the lovely Elimee Designs’ Beautiful Bug CAL. I was so excited to share it with you all, and it took all the willpower I had to keep it a secret until now 🤭
Leaf insects are known for their remarkable ability to mimic the appearance of leaves, not just in colour but also in shape and texture. This camouflage helps protect them from predators by blending in with their natural environment. Beyond their overall leaf shape, many leaf insects also feature “veins” that mimic those of real leaves, and some even have edges that appear “bitten” or weathered, enhancing their disguise. How cool is that!?
The Pattern
You’ll find the free chart for this leaf Insect square below, but if you prefer to have all the instructions written out along with the rest of the squares for the full blanket, you can purchase the pattern here (by using my link I get a commission ❤️)
The Free Chart
The motif measures apx. 36cm (14.25 inch) square – using the hdc C2C stitch. You’ll need three colours, one for the background, one for the main green area of the leaf insect, and one in a darker colour to mark the “veins” of the leaf as well as the stalks on its head. That’s it! Enjoy! This square has been made to join the other designers’ squares in the Beautiful Bugs Blanket, but it would also work well as a small cushion, the side of a bag, or anything else you can think of. Whatever you do, I’d love to see your creations! Make sure you mention me in any IG posts @littlesealdesigns, or send me an email hello(at)littlesealdesigns.com
If you don’t want to purchase the whole blanket pattern, but would still like to support my work (and keep this site ad-free), Ko-fi makes it really easy to donate to my yarn fund here ❤️
Happy crocheting!
